How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants are designed to last for a patient's lifetime. They are made of biocompatible titanium that resists corrosion and is non-toxic. Titanium is an incredibly strong but lightweight metal, making it the perfect material for a dental implant post.

Once the dentist surgically places the implant post into the jawbone, the bone naturally grows around the implant's tiny titanium post. This process is called osseointegration, through which the bone and implant become one.

Because the implant becomes a part of your mouth, it's just like a natural tooth root, safe and secure beneath the gumline. The dental implant post is invisible to others, but we top the post with an abutment piece that attaches a restoration to the implant.

A restoration can be a single crown, denture, or dental bridge. Each of these restorations can last for decades, but if they need repair, adjustment, or replacement, our Crown Point, IN dentist can help you.
